ZURICH AIRPORT RETURNS TO PRE-PANDEMIC LEVELS: OCTOBER 2023 STATS AND BUSINESS TURNOVER

Zurich (awp) – Attendance at Zurich airport returned to its pre-pandemic level in October. In terms of aircraft movements, levels are close to 2019. Only freight has not yet caught up.

The Kloten tarmac welcomed 2.87 million passengers in October 2023, or 19% more than a year earlier, Flughafen Zürich said in a press release on Monday evening. This is also 99.9% of the figure for October 2019, before the pandemic. Passengers in transit represent 27% of this total.

No less than 23,400 aircraft movements were recorded, i.e. 11% more over one year, and 97% of the 2019 level. On average, each flight carried 139 passengers, a figure up 3% compared to to October 2022.

In terms of freight, 33,613 tonnes were processed, i.e. 7% less than a year earlier and 13% less than in October 2019.

The businesses located within the airport posted a turnover up 11.3% to 55.5 million Swiss francs during the month under review.
